The other day I really felt like listening to the album Discovery. I think it is a great album. I remember listening to it a lot when I was younger. One memory in particular is listening to it on my old Sony Walkman cassette player when walking around late at night in the small town where I grew up.
I found a vinyl copy of Discovery in my collection and put it on my turntable. Oh my God, it was so scratchy! It was like a great recording of crackles and pops with some Mike Oldfield music in the background.
I immediatly made a note on my iPhone: Get a better copy of Discovery on vinyl.
The hunt is on…
Yesterday I got a big pile of CD:s in the mail. I bought them online from a guy and the main reason I bought them was that they included a few Mike Oldfield titles. Earlier this year I decided to sell all my CD:s, including most of my Mike Oldfield CD:s but I am now having second thoughts… do not ask me to explain… it is kind of blurry to me too? I think we can partly blame Spotify which I have started to use for most of my listening. It also might have to do a little with the fact that the Universal Mercury reissues are about to be released and I thought it was a good time to sell my old CD:s to finance these new editions.
But since I started this blog I kind of missed my old versions and thought it be nice to re-buy them again and they do turn up at some bargain prices now and then.
I will write more about the particular CD:s I got soon, as they are now part of my tiny “rebooted” collection. All the CD:s I got in the package were in excellent condition apart from two… and yes of course they were both Mike Oldfield albums… bummer. They were however UK versions which I do not believe I have had before.
